Mawar’s tuition classes are done in small groups which is better for focus retention
FOR decades, we have seen tuition centres sprouting up in townships as a stand-alone business. However, in recent times some tuition operators have discovered if they were to franchise a strong tuition brand, they can reap higher profit margins.
A company that has transformed from a stand-alone tuition centre to a franchise is Mawar Tuition Centre. Established in 1996, it grew organically from one outlet in Taman Tun Dr Ismail in Kuala Lumpur to 30 branches nationwide currently. The majority are in the Klang Valley while it also has centres in Perak, Kedah and Sabah.
It adopted the franchise business model in 2008 and its founder Ahmad Rizal Muhammad explains how the franchise began. ‘The government then wanted more bumiputeras to be involved in franchising. So we thought it was a good time to make our centre a franchise as there were not many franchise players in the education industry’
